Let’s congratulate our TDTD Junior, Kyla Coaxum
It is with great pride that I congratulate one of our TDTD golf Juniors.
Our TDTD Junior Kyla Coaxum (17) – who is also a member of the First Tee – Greater Pasadena chapter has been selected to attend the First Tee Game Changers Academy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (July 20 – 24, 2021).
This event was only available to teens who were a member of the First Tee. With the demise of the Los Angeles First Tee chapter, Kyla and her mother were able to transfer her membership to the Pasadena chapter. The selection process was similar to applying to college. Kyla had to submit a personal statement, participate in an interview, along with submitting several letters of recommendation.
Kyla will be one of (48) teens from across the country, and the only one from the southern California area, who will be attending the Game Changer Academy.
The teens will participate in a five-day learning seminar with discussions around the issues of identity, racism, diversity, equity and inclusion.
Kyla has been a member of the TDTD junior golf club for several years and is one of our up and coming bright stars. She is a leader on and off the golf course and often plays with and mentors our younger junior golfers. Kyla is currently the Regional Teen President of the Far West Region of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. And in her limited spare time, she works as a certified swim instructor/Lifeguard in the City of Burbank.
Kyla is a dually-enrolled honors rising senior/college student at John Burroughs High school in Burbank and Glendale Community College in Glendale.
Kyla will graduate in 2022 and is looking forward to attending an HBCU college (Howard University, Spelman, Tulane, North Carolina A&T.) Her ultimate goal is to obtain a Doctorate degree in Medicine (OB/GYN).
Thank you for sharing this information with the members of our golf community family and supportive friends.
